Privacy Policy

This is the privacy policy for Have you heard of Busan? (heardofbusan.co.kr). I’m Min, the editor, and I run the site on my own. It’s written to meet Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Current status: the site does not yet run advertising and has no analytics tracking installed. The sections on advertising and analytics below describe what would happen if I turn those services on. I’ll update this page before that happens, not after.

1. What is collected

There are no user accounts here. I don’t collect your name or contact details unless you type them into the contact form. The following may be recorded automatically while you browse:

  • IP address, browser type and version, operating system, date and time of access, pages viewed, referring URL — recorded in standard server logs by the hosting provider
  • Cookies, if and when advertising or analytics services are activated
  • Contact form only: the name, email address, subject and message you enter

2. What it’s used for

  • Replying to messages you send me
  • Keeping the site secure and spotting abuse
  • If activated later: measuring traffic to improve the guides, and serving advertising

3. Cookies

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. At the moment this site sets none of its own beyond what WordPress needs to serve the page. If I add advertising or analytics, those services will set cookies, and this page will say so before they do. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.

4. Advertising and analytics (planned, not yet active)

I intend to fund this site with advertising, most likely Google AdSense, and to add basic traffic measurement. Neither is running today. When they are, the following will apply and this section will be rewritten in the present tense:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and out of third-party vendor cookies at www.aboutads.info.
  • How Google uses data from partner sites is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
  • If analytics is added, you can block collection with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
  • For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a Google-certified consent management platform will be in place before personalised advertising is shown.

5. How long things are kept

Server access logs are kept by the hosting provider under its own retention schedule. Contact form messages are stored on the site and deleted one year after I reply, unless a law requires me to keep them longer.

6. Who else sees it

I don’t sell or share personal information. The only third parties involved are the hosting provider that runs the server and, once activated, the advertising and analytics services named above. I would also disclose information where a law or a lawful order requires it.

7. Your rights

You can ask me to show you, correct, delete or stop processing anything you’ve sent. Write through the contact page and I’ll act without undue delay. If you’re in the EU or the UK you can also complain to your data protection authority.

8. Who to contact

Min, editor of Have you heard of Busan?, through the contact page. Min is a pen name; it reaches one person, and that person is me.

9. Changes

I’ll update this page when the law changes or when I add a service that collects data, and I’ll change the date below when I do.
