Booking a Yacht Trip in Busan? The Suyeong Bay Marina Is Being Rebuilt

If you’re planning a yacht trip in Busan, know this first: the Suyeong Bay yacht marina (수영만 요트경기장) in Haeundae has been a building site since November 2025, and Busan City plans to finish rebuilding it in the second half of 2027. The city has said the boat-hire businesses there would carry on during the works. It hasn’t said where their boats board in the meantime, at least not anywhere I could find. So before you pay, ask the operator for the exact boarding point.

How this page was made: The two photos are mine, taken by phone on 7 April 2025, months before the work began. The phone recorded the time but not the place; I’ve named the marina from what’s in the frame. The text was drafted with an AI assistant, which read Busan City’s press releases, its project page and a 2002 city gazette article on 15 October 2026. Nobody at the city has reviewed it.

The marina before the work began

On that April afternoon, motor yachts and sailing boats sat in rows along floating pontoons, between blue posts with white tips. Busan City counted 438 berths there in January 2025, 299 on the water and 139 on land.

The Gwangan Bridge (광안대교) is a double-deck bridge, and the city’s 2002 description has it running from Namcheon-dong to near Centum City in Haeundae. I’d guess the road on the right is part of its approach. I haven’t traced it on a map.

Why a marina here at all? Busan City says it was built in 1986 as the yachting venue for that year’s Asian Games and for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Forty years on, it’s getting a complete rebuild.

Source: Busan Metropolitan City press releases of 20 January 2025 and 24 November 2025, and its project page (last updated 9 February 2026), checked 15 October 2026.

Treat the dates as a plan, not a promise. In January 2025 the city was aiming to start that May and finish in December 2026. Work actually started in late November 2025, and the finish moved to 2027. The project page I checked was last updated in February 2026, so anything after that isn’t in this table.

Haeundaehaebyeon-ro, the road along the marina’s landward side, is part of the job too. The city’s plan widens it from six or seven lanes to eight, and it’s doing that first, to ease traffic.

Booking a yacht trip during the rebuild

Here’s the line that matters to you. When it signed the revised deal with the developer in January 2025, Busan City said it had made arrangements so that the marina boat-rental trade (마리나 선박 대여업), which it called a tourist product that’s been drawing attention, could continue through the construction period. That’s a promise about the business carrying on. It isn’t a map of where you’ll step aboard, and I didn’t find a later city notice that gives one.

So a booking page that names the old marina as the meeting point tells you less than it seems. Ask three things:

  • “Where exactly do I board, and is it inside or outside the construction site?”
  • “How do I get there on foot from the nearest bus stop or station?”
  • “What happens to my booking if the boarding point moves?”

Ask again a few days before your trip, not only when you book. The city’s schedule has the works at sea starting in the second half of 2026, which is now.

If you’d rather keep your feet dry, the bridge doesn’t need a boat. I compared five dated views of it from the sand in when to see the Gwangan Bridge from Gwangalli Beach.

Questions you might have

Is the marina closed?
I found no city notice saying so. The city’s plan is to rebuild it while the boat-rental trade keeps going; what that looks like on the ground this month, I haven’t checked.

Will it be finished for next summer?
Unlikely, on the city’s own schedule. The groundbreaking release puts completion in October 2027, and the project page says the second half of 2027.

Who can confirm any of this?
Both press releases list Busan City’s Urban Infrastructure Development Division (도시인프라개발과) as the contact, on (051) 888-5362. For a specific trip, your operator is the one who knows where the boat is.

Where these facts come from

What I did not check: where yacht-hire boats board now, or whether any particular operator is running trips; prices, times and routes of trips; how you reach the marina on foot or by public transport while it’s being rebuilt, and where you can park; whether the schedule has changed since the city’s project page was updated in February 2026. My photos are from April 2025 and show nothing of the construction. The phone recorded no location, so the place is named from what’s in the frame, and the double-deck road in the photo hasn’t been matched to the bridge on a map.

I live in Gwangalli and write this site from there. Most English writing about Busan stops at three beaches; the city I walk every day is bigger than that, and I’m as interested in Nampo-dong, Yeongdo and the streets nobody lists as I am in the famous ones. I check hours, fares and dates against the district office, the transport operator or the venue, and I date every guide. Where I haven’t been myself, I say so. Min is a pen name.
